Welcome to Oak Forest Academy

Oak Forest Academy is a growing, private school founded in 1969 with the purpose of providing students maximum opportunities for personal and educational growth in a safe environment. Our school consists of grades Pre-K3 through grade 12. It is possible for a student to start with us in Pre-K and go on through high school graduation without ever changing schools. All of our students are known by name. The Amite Independent School, operating under the trade name, Oak Forest Academy, admits students of any race, color, religion or ethnic origin.

Throughout the school year, we have emphasized the importance of reading. The students have been required to participate in the Accelerated Reading program. Now that summer is here, we do not want them to stop reading. Research shows that students who do not read during the summer can experience significant learning loss. In order to keep our students reading, we have created a summer reading program that incorporates AR. ALL students in 7th-11th grade English will follow the program. The program’s requirements are listed below along with a list of summer days on which students are invited to take AR tests at the school (computers will be available in Mrs. Miller’s room in the Junior High Building). The summer reading program is a separate assignment from the standard 100-point AR grade that the students must earn every nine week grading period. During the summer months, all students are required to read and pass the AR test for 10-AR book points. Junior High students will receive a reading range in which to choose books. Grades 9-11 will read books no lower than a 5.0 book level. They can use the website, www.arbookfind.com to check book levels and quiz availability. Books can be found at any bookstore or at the public library. To receive credit for the book read, it must be within the student’s reading range. The test results will be averaged into the Reading/English grade first nine weeks as Summer Reading. There will be no rollover points from the summer. Dates for AR testing are as follows:

June 14, 2018 10am-12pm                  July 12, 2018 9am-12pm

June 28, 2018 10am-12pm                  July 26, 2018 9am-12pm

***There will be no testing on Orientation Day***
